Evan is 4!

Thursday, March 18th, 2010

Evan had a wonderful birthday today.  He was happy all day- smiling, and SO excited at getting to open presents later on after a family birthday dinner.  He got two transformers, 'Optimus Prime' and 'Jazz' as well as Bakugans booster packs and two Lego packs.

We let him stay up with us and watch whatever he wanted (three episodes of Avatar the Last Airbender), and putting him to bed- I told him: "Sweet dreams, my wonderful little boy-" to which he replied, get this:

"Sweet dreams, my big, tall Papa!"

What a neat kid!

More cleverness-

"Going to the CIRCLE STORE (Target) and buying more cars, will make Bumblebee HAPPY!"

Hello! I’m Doctor Evan!

Thursday, July 16th, 2009

So the day after Evan went to the doctor, we were downstairs playing in the geek-cave (basement). Specifically, he was rummaging through my desk looking for interesting 'toys' as he calls it.  He finds some old cheap headphones I had stuffed into the recesses of a drawer…  and then he gets that 'look' in his eyes.  The scheming one.

All of sudden, I hear: "Hello!  I'm Doctor Evan!" and my nostril is being invaded by the headphone jack as Evan, grinning ear to ear (both of which have the headphones in them- slung around his neck as opposed to across his head) blinding me with a pen-light in his other hand.  All of this without any prompting from me.

Once I extricated the jack from my nose, and stopped laughing- much hugs were applied.

Driving home- Evan says to his momma:  "Mama…  white clouds look like POTATOES!"
And sure enough, they look like mashed potatoes.
Susan then asks: "Do you think those clouds TASTE like potatoes?"
Evan replies with great gusto: "Yes!"  As if he can taste them.

I love that boy.

Preflight Checklist

Evan, Susan and I are going to be traveling to Germany April 1st (no fooling)- and Evan still doesn’t quite grasp just what the trip will entail.

We’ve been packing and he came up with a brilliant idea that’s quite tempting… to stuff him into a bag!

What do you think of the idea??

Chuck E. Cheeses, where a kid…

…can come face to face with the stuff of nightmares.

For Evan’s birthday, we decided to take him to Chuck E Cheeses.  Evan had never been been there before, and he had a BLAST.  Tried to ride on every cars-related ride at once.  It was hilarious.Munch’s Make Believe Band

Now, I haven’t been to a Chuck E Cheeses since the 80s, and I have to say, those singing animatronic abominations are some serious creepy. Their halting, jerky movements coupled with those constantly sweeping unblinking gaze sent chills down my spine.  The pinnacle of eerie was achieved when they broke into a stirring rendition of Tears for Fears staples: ‘Everybody wants to rule the World’ followed by ‘Shout’.  I’m amazed the kiddies didn’t run screaming from the room.  I know *I* was sorely tempted to do so.

Thankfully, the robotic monstrosities did NOT choose to throw off the yokes of their human oppressors and begin the wholesale destruction of the human race.  Whew.  Also, the pizza wasn’t half bad.

Getting Evan to LEAVE at the end of the night turned out to not be a popular suggestion.  But I’m glad he had a good time.

Happy 3rd Birthday, Evan!

Fun in the snow!

Evan had one of his first adventures in the snow today!  Papa got him all suited up in his snow bibs, boots, coat, gloves and hat and took him outside into our backyard.  Evan was not quite sure what to think – he had seen the snow falling for the last several weeks but now he was out and among the white fluff.  He tried to cling to his father's leg – as he tried to get his balance while his feet sunk.  His first thought was "this isn't fun".

Papa proceeded to encourage our little boy out into the sun – where it was a tad warmer.  Evan wasn't falling for papa's trick.  He sat down by a tree stump and refused to move further.   He didn't understand why it was so hard to walk on the white surface and why he couldn't keep his balance.  After a minute of collecting himself – Chris picked him ujp and chucked him into the snow.  Evan's eyes were full of terror – what had his papa just done to him?

But as papa continued to toss Evan into the snow the cries of mercy started to quite down and laughter began to take it's place.  "Wow – that was kinda fun" became Evan's tone.

Papa also threw himself in the snow and made a snow angel – Evan found this absolutely FUNNY!!

All in all, we all had a great time in the snow.  Next year we will try sledding!
