Bucket Head!

Bucket Head 6-24-2007 3-30-11 PM

Evan discovered on his own the joy of putting a bucket on his head and wondering around the room.   At first he would just sit on the floor with the bucket on his head and laugh.  He has now become more adventerous – he will put the bucket on while standing and proceed to walk.  He finds it extremely funny when he runs into someone or something – of course we kept our eye on him to make sure he didn't hit anything too hard.  But even when Evan encountered the wall – he ran into and started laughing and then continued to bonk his head against the wall. He's one crazy kid!

Nelson Update

Thursday, July 19th, 2007

Hello everyone out there! Wow – it's been over a month since our last blog entry.  Life has been busy and we have been adjusting and enjoying our new home.

Updates on Evan:

Walking – he is a running little man!  He can easily pop up to standing and walk very fast from one side of the room to the other.  He prefers walking now over crawling and doesn't crawl much anymore.  He is also starting to understand the idea of chasing us or being chased and gets very excited when we get on the floor and chase after him – he tries to quickly waddle away and hide behind the chair.

Teeth – Evan's first molar started to come through a few weeks ago on the upper left and then the upper right molar started.  Now they have broken through and he has two bottom molars starting their way through the gums.  He's been cranky the last few days and hoping this will pass soon.

Sleeping – since we moved into our new home Evan's sleeping patterns have changed and they continue to change on a daily basis (very exhausting for all of the Nelson's).  Evan will wake up a few times during the night and wait for one of us to come into the room – once we appear in the door way he will lay back down in his bed – wait to be covered and go back to sleep.  He's also been an early bird – waking up between 4:00 to 6:00 a.m.  Chris and I are hoping this is a short phase – we all need to get some good sleep.

Growing! – Evan had his 15 month check up recently and has hit the 30 pound mark and is 35 inches long.  He's a big boy and gives my muscles a good work out.

Talking – Evan loves to chatter.  He doesn't say many actual words yet but he loves to mix up his sounds and pitches.   He is great at making eye contact and will carry on a conversation with us – he even raises his voice up at the end of his conversation as if he was asking us a question.  He also knows how to express his anger – I had put him down to nap when he didn't want to sleep and he stood up defiantly in his crib and told me 'ga ga ba ga sa la za za' – his tone took me by surprise.  He is a VERY expressive child!

Playing – Evan loves to roll around on the floor with his blanket.  He wrestles and bites his blanket and just rolls around – he also loves it when there are pillows on the floor and he will tackle them and roll all over them too.

I'm sure there are more updates on Evan but can't think of them right now – he is busy exploring his world and is such a joy to watch.

Update on Chris – he's loving his new job!  I'm SO thrilled that Chris is in a job that he enjoys and finds challenging.  He also has a great boss. Chris is also learning (or trying to learn) how to keep our grass alive and maintain our huge yard.  The weather has been HOT and drying everything out – we aren't use to this type of heat.

Update on Sue – I'm doing alright.  Evan keeps me busy and tired.  I love our new home and have enjoyed decorating it.  I have also been learning about maintaining our yard and the joy of pulling weeds.  Last night a wasp visited me while I was trimming a tree – luckily he just crawled on my leg and didn't sting me but it scared me to death.  Chris was my hero and came outside and killed it.  We found a wasp nest last night on our house and have an exterminator coming today to get rid of it.  I'm also enjoying spending time with my family and going to lunch weekly with them – Evan entertains all of us.

We hope everyone out there is doing well and we will try to update our blog more often.
