1 year check up!

Monday, March 26th, 2007

Evan met his new pediatrician today and had his one year old check up.  The doctor was very impressed by Evan's size – he now weighs 27.5 pounds and is 33.5 inches long.  Everything checked out great and no concerns.  Evan received 4 shots and was a brave soldier – he cried out when the needles went in but recovered within seconds after the nurse was done.

Happy Birthday!

Evan's actual birthday (March 18th) was spent on the road traveling from California to Nevada.  So we had a pre and post birthday celebration.

On Sunday the 11th we held an open house in honor of Evan's birthday and also as a farewell party.  We had a great turnout and Evan was blessed with some nifty gifts.  Evan also had the opportunity to try his first cupcake.  He didn't know quite what to think of it and seemed more fascinated with the sticky frosting on his fingers and the feel of it more then the taste of it.  I think Evan finally did manage to take a bite or two fo the cupcake – but he seemed more interested in how it felt.

On Tuesday the 20th we had a family birthday party at grandma and grandpa's.  We were fortunate to have most of my family present plus Julia, Chris' youngest sister, was in town. Evan was presented a 2nd cupcake in honor of his birthday and didn't seem very happy.  After he got frosting on his fingers he became upset and attempted to wipe the frosting off and used his face as the napkin.  We were all very surprised that he didn't want to eat the chocolate frosting or cupcake – considering his papa LOVES chocolate.

….Aaaaaand- we’re in Utah

Monday, March 19th, 2007

We just got into Salt Lake City- the trip was blessedly uneventful.  Smooth sailing all the way and we made great time; 650+ miles in about 15 hours over two days.

Many, many thanks to ALL of you who helped out- we would have been sunk without you.  An especially big thank you to Chris and Vicki Solan who opened his home to us Saturday night, saving us $200+ in hotel expenses.  Vicki cooks a GREAT breakfast too!  Four stars!!!   2thumbs

Utah was nice enough to warm itself up for our arrival, 72 degrees.  I'm glad it saw fit to cooperate.  Then again- it's probably just global warming.   razz

Tomorrow is the big UNPACKING.  Oi.  Most of our stuff will be going into storage, while the rest will end up in our inlaws basement-  this basement that is now Nelson HQ until I get a job.  At that point the home search will commence.  I have an interview Wednesday- wish me luck!

Thanks again guys for everything.

So proud of you, little man.

First step!

Tuesday, March 13th, 2007

Evan took his first step!!  Evan has been practicing for about the last month standing on his own but when it came time to move he would sit down and crawl to where he wanted to go.  Well, that is beginning to change!  Evan had pulled himself on a moving box – Chris moved the box and Evan just stood there.  Chris encouraged Evan to come to him and Evan did – he took one small step towards his daddy and he started to lift his back foot to take a second step but lost his balance and sat down (in the prcoess of sitting down he looked like a little surfer dude!)  Of course we are SO excited to see Evan reach the next milestone of walking – but not sure how ready we are!  I better lace up my running shoes because this guy is going to keep my moving.

Standing on my OWN!

Monday, March 12th, 2007

Evan stoodup on his own for longer than the second or two he has been over the past few weeks- we're talking  30-40 seconds at a stretch here.  It was so amazing.  He looked SO grown up.  Like he was going to take off running any second-  (which he hasn't yet- only one minicule step followed by a plummet to the ground, but we're working on that)

He's so incredible.

And as a bonus, here's a picture right before he sat down.  It looks like he's surfing or about to perform some kung-fu move!

Early Birthday Party for Evan!

Sunday, March 11th, 2007

Since we will be underway to Utah on Evan's birthday (the 18th), we decided to celebrate it a week early.  We invited all our friends for a joint birthday party (for Evan) and going away party (for all the Nelsons) this Sunday.

Susan cleaned out our cupboards and made some delicious goodies: Brownies, lemon bars, peach cobbler and a three-tiered 'cupcake-cake'.  Yum!

All in all we had 18 adults and 5 kids/babies made an appearance- we pushed the capacity of our little home to the breaking point.  But we had a BLAST.  It was very chaotic, but in a good way.

Steve and Nalaina gave some very neat sports-centric toys which Evan took a great liking to.

And then- Evan, with much pomp and circumstance, was given his first cupcake.  Yellow cake with thick chocolate frosting.  MmmmMMMMMmm!

Lack of updates- we’re MOVING

Tuesday, March 6th, 2007

Sorry about the lack of updates of late-  Things have been very chaotic at the Nelson household lately.  Y'see, we've SOLD our home in SoCal and are relocating to Salt Lake City, Utah!

Wow.  Exciting.

Details and more baby updates to follow.
