8 1/2 month check up

Wednesday, November 29th, 2006

Took Evan to the docs for his regular check-up.  He is doing great! Here come those TEETH 11-15-2006 8-38-54 PM

Evan weighed in at an impressive 25 pounds and is 30.5 inches long.  He is a growing boy – luckily, he has slowed down on his growth and won't be 4 feet long by his first birthday!

Everything checked out good.  In fact, the doctor said Evan's motor skills and muscle development are very advanced – that he is comparible to an 11 month old.  Of course, Chris and I were not surprised that Evan is advanced and developing at an accelerated rate – we think he's one amazing dude – but we can also be a little biased since he's our precious son.  We now have medical confirmation (not that we needed it) but Evan – you are one amazing kid!  Momma and Pappa are so proud of you and all of the accomplishments you have made and will continue to make.  Love you, son!

Our Little X-Wing Pilot

Tuesday, November 28th, 2006

So, as you may or may not know- Evan has been wearing a helmet for the last few weeks due to asmall flat spot on the back of his head.  The doctor tells us he will have to wear it 23 hours a day for the next 4 to 5 months.

Now, the helmet was originally a plain white which was very plain indeed.

I went researching designs/stickers etc that we could put on the helmet to spruce it up- after scrutinizing and discarding many- I came up with the following design:  Luke Skywalkers X-Wing Pilot Helmet

And here it is:

I think it turned out pretty cool! And yes, very geeky.  That was the plan all along, you see.  :)

What do you think?

Evanhas a great sense of humor- and when we do something funny- he's incredibly fun to watch and egg on.

Last week, Sue got him going so good, he fell over.  It was hilarious.

Well, today- I took it too far.

I'm not proud of this, mind.

I made my son THROW UP because of laughing so hard.

Gosh, I feel bad about it-  It took both of us quite by suprise.

What a milestone, eh?

The celebrating continues…

Monday, November 20th, 2006

The Nelson gang continued to celebrate my birthday on Sunday. The three of us went out to lunch and went to the beach.  This was the 2nd time Evan has been to the beach – first time he had been on the sand.  We had a fun outing and took lots of pictures.  Here are a few of my favorite:

My goodness – how quickly eight months go by

Monday, November 20th, 2006

I'm too sexy for my Bib 11-13-2006 1-45-34 PM It is hard to believe, but my little guy is now eight months old.  I can easily remember a year ago wabbeling around with my big round belly and having no clue if we were having a boy and girl.  Well – here we are with an incredible, amazing boy.

Evan continues to hit and surpass the milestones of infant development.  Despite his difficult beginning he has been like a 'Phoenix' – he has risen from the ashes strong and proud and is taking on the world (well, taking on the living room at the moment).

It was just a month ago with Evan began to crawl and it consisted of 3 or 4 moves before he gave up.  Now he is moving EVERYWHERE!  and What a Big Boy 11-18-2006 1-24-35 PMhe moves FAST!  In addition to him crawling he started to pull himself up to standing by holding onto the furniture (or his papa or mama's leg).

Well, his mobility hasn't stopped!  Evan can now pull himself up on the edge of the couch and he can take 3 or 4 steps on his own from one end of the couch to the other while holding onto it.  My boy is walking!  On average, an infant begins to walk at 12 months and due to Evan's size doctor's have cautioned us that Evan might take longer in physical development due how big he is.  My boy likes to continue to prove those doctors wrong – I love it!

Also, Evan has been learning the art of falling very well – he's figured out how to sit down when he's standing or lean over and catch himself with his hands – this has help cut down on the head bonks.

I AM THE CUTEST! 11-13-2006 8-42-04 PMEvan has also discovered how to get himself up into a sitting position from lying on the floor.  For the last few weeks he's been pushing/pulling himself up into a semi-sitting position and would keep one arm propped on the floor to support him.  Well, no more support is needed.  Evan gets on his bottom and shifts his weight back and forth until he is balanced and can support himself.  What an amazing dude.

It's also such a joy that Evan finds random things funny and just laughs – he is such a happy child.  He can be crawling around the room or sitting and chewing on a toy and he'll just laugh out loud.  He also smiles very easy – whenever I walk into a room or catch his eye when he's busy crawling about he will flash me a smile (a smile fillin' up with teeth!)
