The look of love

Thursday, July 6th, 2006

A few nights ago I was feeding Evan and I looked down at him and he was staring at me.  I smiled at him and he smiled at me and just continued to look at him – his look softened and he seemed to be just soaking in every inch of my face.  We held each other's gaze and my heart began to melt – even though he can't quite talk yet it seemed he was telling me that he loved me.  I was speechless.  I'm smiling right now as I recall that warm memory.

I knew when I was pregnant that it was going to be hard but I kept telling myself that it was worth it and kept holding onto the dream of when my child would lovingly smile at me.  Well, my dream came true.  I have a healthy son that loves me – what more could I ask for?  Even though the first few weeks after his birth were the most difficult days I have ever faced – I now have a child that is mine and that loves me.

Growing, growing, growing….

Our dear son is growing like a weed.  He is now 15 weeks old and weighs over 18 pounds and is almost 26 inches long.  The nine month clothing that we recently purchased is startingto get short and hard to snap.  I'm blown away at how quickly he is changing and becoming a little man.  Not only is he physically changing but mentally as well.  He is starting to understand so much more about the world around him – I love to watch him as he plays with toys and slowly strokes them to feel the texture and then puts it in his mouth to taste it – I can see in his eyes that his mind is processing all of the new things.

He is also becoming more vocal – he loves to express himself.  He is starting to laugh and will squeal in delight – and when he's angry he will grunt or yell.  He is simply amazing.

Losing my mind…

Wednesday, July 5th, 2006

I had been told that having children causes you to lose your mind – they weren't kidding.  I use to remember a lot – including the small details – and now I am having a hard time remembering some of the most basic things

This past weekend I left Chris and Evan home to run errands – the next morning Chris walked in the house with my keys and informed me that my keys were in the ignition of my car and the doors were unlocked.  Nothing like inviting someone to steal your car!  Thank goodness no one took it – but I totally didn't remember leaving my keys in the car.  I'm sure I will have more stories as time goes on – oh boy!

Happy Laughing Boy!

Hearing my son laugh makes my heart almost BURST with joy.

Being the one that's making him laugh?  That's the icing on the cake.
