Cravings…

Tuesday, November 29th, 2005

My cravings have been quite limited the past two months – nothing out of the oridnary. But, then there was today. I was meeting with my boss, Julie in her office and she was finishing her lunch from the cafeteria – she had a pickle that smelled up the entire office and the smell made me start to salivate. I’ve never, in my life, salivated over pickles.  After our meeting I rushed down to the cafeteria and asked if I could buy the rest of their pickles – they only had 4 slices left and she gave them to me for free – saying it was good for the baby.  I felt kinda embarrassed that I begged for pickle wedges – but they were SO good.  I came up to my desk – and you would have thought I hadn’t eaten for days – my mouth began to salivate again as I prepared to enjoy my 4 pickles.  I chowed down on the pickles and it was SO GOOD.

I was really amazed at how I was craving them and had to satisfy the craving. Unfortunately, the cafeteria is out of pickles for the rest of the day and I’ll have to wait until I get home for more. But this was my first REAL craving I’ve out since I’ve been pregnant.

All is well….

We had our 24 week appointment this week – I am now six months into the pregnancy and only 16 weeks to go!  We got to hear the heartbeat – which is exciting every time – Doc said the heartbeat is strong and consistant and that it sounds good.  Everything seems to be on track and going well.

My stomach is popping out more and the baby is moving more – Chris has now felt it move 3 different times.  It is so fun to see his eyes get big when he feels the slight kick of the baby.  It is also quite amazing to feel the baby move inside – it has been quite active.

Next appointment is on the 19th of December.  I have more blood work that I have to get done prior to the appointment – SO not looking forward to it but understand the importance of it.  We also have to register for our baby classes – such as Labor & Delivery and Newborn Care.  The countdown is on!

Happy birthday to me!

Monday, November 21st, 2005

I had a great birthday this past weekend.  On Friday, the official b-day, met up with some friends for dinner at Outback and then ate the delicious cake Chris had made.  Chris presented me with a wonderful birthday gift – a gift certificate for a pregnancy massage at Burke & Williams spa – I am so looking forward to it.

On Saturday, Chris and I departed for San Diego, CA to spend the weekend.  We had rented a Mazda Tribute to test drive – we are thinking about buying one soon – need a good family car.  We went to a place called Old Town San Diego and walked around the old buildings/settlements that are remnants of the original San Diego .  We then went to the Gaslamp district of San Diego and walked around and had dinner.  Our hotel was down town and quite fancy – it’s called the W (it is owned by Westin).  The hotel is designed to feel like a club – the lights are low and there’s music every where.  There is even an outdoor bar on the third floor that  had 3 tons of heated sand on the ground and projected videos on the side of the hotel.

On Sunday, we explored a place called Balboa Park .  It’s a park surrounded by museums – apparently it is the largest grouping of museums in the nation.  We sat in the park for a while and listened to an organist play on a huge outdoor organ.  We then walked around and enjoyed the beautiful gardens and saw the ‘Museum of Man.’

The greatest part of the trip – and any trip that I have with Chris – is just spending time together and exploring new places.  We enjoy taking in new things – together.  Just the simplicity of holding hands and walking down a new street brings joy to us.  Also, Chris has helped me to be more spontaneous in our outings – and I don’t have to plan every minute of the day.  This has helped me relax and simply enjoy our time together.  We are SO looking forward to exposing our child to new places and to share new moments with them.

Well, it’s true – I’m getting older.

Friday, November 18th, 2005

Well, today is my birthday. I’m having mixed feelings on this one – it is the last of the ‘twenty something’ and next year I step into the next group of ‘thirty something’. I don’t mind getting older – I know that there is so much ahead of me and my family. But, also seeing my youth fading away is somewhat hard to swallow. I woke up at 5:00 a.m. this morning to go the bathroom and moaned about the fact that it was here – my birthday. When I went back to bed – I felt so tired and just wanted to sleep – but all of the sudden the baby started moving and kept moving.

For ten solid minutes the baby kept moving all around – felt it on the left side and then the right side and back and forth. I haven’t felt it move for that many minutes in a row yet – so I was quite amazed and woke up from my slumber. Think the baby was starting to celebrate its mom’s birthday and having a party of its own. I had to smile – even though I might feel my youth is fading away – I will soon have a youth of my own. It is going to be amazing to watch this little guy/girl grow up and partake in their life. Guess getting older is not too bad!

Also, a nice aspect of getting older is watching my husband make a cake for me. Chris is not one to spend much time in the kitchen – he has his few basic meals that he prepares but usually nothing out of the ordinary. But for the last 3 years he has taken it upon himself to make me a cake. So, thanks to my husband – hope it tastes as good as it looks!
