It’s ALIVE!!!

Thursday, September 29th, 2005

Well, the baby is a live and well. Had our 4 month check up appointment at the doctor’s and no drama took place this time!

The doc was able to find the heartbeat the first time – and it was strong and steady. 150 beats per minute. This was the first time for Chris and I to hear the rapid little heart beat – there truly is a little life inside of me.

I’ve been beside myself for the last day – it seems so unreal. We’ve known for months that we are pregnant but the last two weeks – it’s hard to explain – but it just seems so more real. I can feel my uterus just below my belly button – it’s about the size of a grapefruit right now. My belly is becoming more sensitive to tight things around it and there are all kind of strange feelings/muscles moving. The baby is over 4.5 inches long now and is rapidly growing. It’s amazing that a human life can be assembled so quickly.

Of course we pray that I go full term to 40 weeks but if the baby was born at 27 weeks (just in 11 weeks from where I am) the baby has a pretty good chance of surviving outside of the womb – it’s absolutely amazing. I’m happy to report I have no more morning/day sickness. I still become tired at night but managing it better with getting to bed early. The only physical ailment that has increased are headaches at night. I’ve been fortunate not to have another migraine but I’ve had a lot of dull headaches lately. I can now take regular Tylenol – which helps take the edge off of the pain. Doc said most likely these will decrease in the next few weeks and I should be feeling great for the rest of the second trimester. Yeah!

This is way cool!  The Lullabub.

A robot that could rock your baby to sleep in his crib. And this isn’t a Will Smith movie. The Lullabub has four modules that are placed under each leg of your child’s crib. Each module produces a soft rocking motion—like the suspension of a car—with four settings and an automatic timer to shut it off after the child drifts off. Look for it sometime before the end of the year.

How neat is that?

Oooh, I’d like one of these!

Wow, this thing is very cool-

Every parent has an underlying fear of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), so enter the Respisense Buzz by Pretoria IT engineer Hans Pietersen. Looks like a tube of dental floss but can really protect babies by "triggering a cellphone vibrator motor inside their nappies when sensors detect that breathing has stopped for 15 seconds." It also has a built-in breathing stimulator that will wake the baby to begin its breathing before the alarm is sounded.

I’m picking one of these up, let me tell you.

Ooof! A sign of things to come-

Had to help Sue out of the recliner chair tonight for the first time-

She was so embarrased-  "I’m only at four months and I already can’t get out of the chair!"

What a cutie!

3 to a bed

Well- not three people, yet, mind you.

It’s Sue’s new ‘Body Pillow’.  She’s been getting back and hip aches- so we got a body pillow which seems to help.  It’s just the default cylindrical shape.  Not one of those super funky tentacle type monsters.  Our’s is blue, though.

Only thing is, we share a queen size bed- and now it feels like a third person sleeps between us!  Ugh!

The incredible spinning baby!

Wow- this is amazing

Sue and I read in one of our baby-books last night (It’s the one called Beginning Life and is really neato.) that a 3 month old fetus (the current age of our baby) is NEVER still for more that 5 minutes.  Furthermore it turns somesaults forward and backward, stretches, even already YAWNS during this time in the pregnancy!

That’s so INCREDIBLE!  Spin baby, SPIN!
