The Baby’s having a Baby!

Monday, July 25th, 2005

The time has arrived to begin sharing the news with family that there is a little one on the way.  Chris and I called my side of the family last night to share the news.  They were all very excited for us.  My sister and mom both commented that the family’s baby is having a babyemoticon

We sent the shirts off for the Nelson’s and they should arrive by Friday – Chris is extremely excited to share the news with his family.  It will be nice having the secret out and celebrate together!

Baby clothes shopping…

Saturday, July 23rd, 2005

We stopped by a discount/used baby clothes shop called ‘Children’s Orchard’ on our way home from my company picnic.  I am completely flabbergasted by the amount of baby clothes, accessories, toys, etc…
Amazing.

Sue is doing the whole kid in a candy store thing.  :) . She’s so cBoobahs! That's just WRONG. *shudder*ute.

I saw what has got to be the most frightening dolls EVER.  We’re talking serious nightmare stuff here.  They’re called ‘Boobahs’  Euurgh…  talk about creepy
Update: Holy smokes, they have a completly surreal website as well, looks like they’re a TV show…  *shudder*

I was tasked to ‘pick something out!’ by Sue who obviously didn’t think I was contributing enough- so, get this, I found two neato baby bib-jeans
As an aside-  The term ‘bib-jeans’ is one of my last remaining vestiges of my southern upbringing, something Susan takes delight in pointing out.  The more common (read: yankee) term, I’m told is ‘overalls’ or ‘coveralls’.PPTP

Now, THIS is pretty funny.  Saw these ingenious things called, I kid you not, ‘Pee-Pee Teepees’.  It’s a pee-shield for use while changing a little boys diaper.  Is that great or what?  They even have fire hydrants on the ones I’m holding in the picture.  Awesome.  Here’s a close up of the operating instructions.

That just ROCKS.

Hokay, time to go-  later!

We told someone!

Friday, July 22nd, 2005

Went to ‘The Old Spaghnetti Factory’ tonight with our friends Pedro and Dawn.  We weren’t originally going to tell them about our impending bundle o’ joy, BUT…Dawn and Pedro. Dawn is ALSO pregnant! o.o

They told us that they were pregnant first!  How cool is that?  We couldn’t help but spill the beans after that,  It’s kinda wierd, They are exactly one month ahead of us.  The last time we hung out, in fact, Sue and Dawn were talking about pregnancy, Sue and I weren’t trying yet, but were planning on soon.  At that time, Dawn said: "well, it could happen anytime!", not knowing that at that very moment she was pregnant!

We had a great time tonight, comparing baby-books we’ve bought, thigh/butt sizes (this was funny as well, Sue and Dawn went through all kinds of linguistic trouble to avoid the term butt.  ‘Upper Thigh’ was the term they settled on, eventually), times of nausea, shifts in body temperature…  All kinds of things.

Driving home Sue and I remarked about how awesome it is to find a couple that’s going through the same experiences that we are.  emoticon

God has blessed us indeed.

Anyone got broccoli?

Thursday, July 21st, 2005

If so, keep it to yourself!

Chris is forcing me to write this blog… I am so tired that I could take a nap but I’m told I must enter something in the blog.

Well, it’s official – I am experiencing fatigue and sleeplessness.  The baby symptoms are here… luckily I am not experiencing nausea right now – and hopefully it will stay that way.

Chris made me lunch today… trying to eat better is an experience.  The bag was heavy and I wondered what surprises he packed for me.  The sandwich was about 2 lbs worth – it had so much cheese and lunchmeat on it that I could only eat half of it.  In addtion, I had fresh broccoli – I had a hard time eating it and within 30 minutes my stomach was rolling.  No more raw broccoli for me.

I can’t keep my eyes open so I must go.

Keep hanging in there buddy – 33 weeks left….. (who’s counting?!?!)

The plot thickens…

Found the book!

Wednesday, July 20th, 2005

Sue and I went to the Spectrum (a local mall close to where Sue works) to eat our sack lunches out by the fountains…

Afterward we hit the nearby Barnes & Noble to see if they had the pregnancy book we were looking for.  And they did!  Yay!  emoticon
It’s called Beginning Life, by Geraldine Lux Flanagan.  It contains all these amazing photos that show the baby at week 10, 14, 18, etc.  I didn’t know you could fit a camera in there!

We got another neato book Good Housekeepings Illustrated Book of Pregnancy and Baby Care, and a magazine called Pregnancy

There was a friendly old man at the checkout counter, who after selling me the books, leaned forward, looked me in the eye and whispered:

‘Congratulations’.

Now, that was freakin COOL.

Nutrition?!?!?

Oi!  Now that I’m eating for two there is so much more to consider and watch  for.  I was doing some research on what they recommend a pregnant women eats per day – it seems like I will be eating all day if I follow their menu.  It’s amazing – you need 4 servings of calcium, 4 servings of dairy, 6-11 servings of carbohydrates, 3 veggie servings, 2 fruit, iron-enriched food, lots of water and the list goes on and on and on and on.  It can be overwhelming – I want to do the right thing!

So, to the grocery store I go to buy more fruit and vegetables then I have ever before.
