Clothes, Clothes, Clothes

Sunday, July 31st, 2005

The bitter-sweet news of clothing and pregnancy.  You get a new wardrobe which means shopping and buying new things.  But the reality is that  your body expands, expands and expands and you can no longer fit in the single digit size clothing and now ‘tents’ are considered fashionable.

I’ve been looking/purchasing maternity clothing and I sometimes wonder what in the world designers are thinking.  Fortunately, there are some cute things out there but some things are absolutely hideous.  It seems/appears designers approach maternity clothing with the thought ‘the bigger that you get the less style you want – that large flower prints and wide stripes are now fashionably acceptable – even though they weren’t pre-pregnancy’.  I swear, I haven’t seen as many unflattering prints then I have in the maternity section.  So, it looks like when I’m in my 3rd trimester I will not be able to leave the house due to having no presentable clothing!

The Fair

Saturday, July 30th, 2005

We went to the fair with our friends Mike & Tara tonight.

It was packed, hot and chaotic, but without those attributes, you can’t really call it a fair, can you?.

We played goofy games, looked at livestock and really large vegetables.  I partook of Deep Fried Oreos;

which turned out to have been something of a mistakeemoticon

Sue and I got an old western type picture taken of us…

All in all, we had great time. But now we are exhaustedemoticon

My Grandma rocks

Saturday, July 30th, 2005

Sue and I finally got a hold of my Grandma to break her the good news today.  She was a riot.

"Oh!  I’m SO happy for you!  I can’t wait to tell the others seniors in my sunday-school class tomorrow that I’m going to be a Great-Grandma!  Oooh, ooh!  I have to call up Dave and Steve and Julie (my aunts and uncles) and tell them the news right away!  I’m SO excited!  …I better go sit down."

It was so much fun talking to her.  Wow, how AMAZING this all is.

Packing it away (or more like packing it on)

Saturday, July 30th, 2005

This past weekend I began the process of packing away the clothes that I no longer fit in due to the affects of pregnancy.  As I put the clothes into a storage bag I began to wonder when I would have the opportunity to unpack and wear them again.  My body is beginning to go through so many changes and I’m just in the beginning of pregnancy.

Many of my friends that have been pregnant mention how tired they were the first trimester of pregnancy – but they didn’t mention the weight issue.  A lovely side effect of pregnancy is morning sickness – either you are vomiting and can’t keep anything down or eating all the time to ease the nausessness.  In my case – I eat about every two hours to keep my stomach calm plus I’m introducing more carb friendly items to my diet that I have not eaten for the last two years.  So, my stomach has not begin to show but my thighs and backside are beginning to reflect the side effects of pregnancy – eating often and becoming a warehouse for energy storage for this little life in me.

I do not want to get trapped in the thought process of  ‘I’m eating for two and it’s okay’ – but it is so tempting.  Especially when the cookies and doughnuts seem to calm my stomach down more then vegetables and cheese do.  Chris is trying to help me eat better so we shall see.

Spreading the news part II

Friday, July 29th, 2005

Told our good friends Isaac and Karin tonight over dinner at Sharkey’s.

It’s was decidedly strange.  They’re very happy for us, but there was also definite sense of saddness that our relationships as friends will change soon.  A bitter-sweet feeling.

After dinner they brought us to their favorite ice-cream place the Classic Creamery.  It was tasty, andI hope we don’t hurt their feelings, but in our opinion, Zizi’s is way better  :P

We love ‘em, tho.

My family now knows!

Friday, July 29th, 2005

My parents just got the news! emoticon I made them some neato t-shirts that said:

Oma_pre.pngOpa_pre.png

Oma and Opa is german for Grandmother and Grandfather!  Pretty neat, huh?  My dad just called me, he’s currently driving back from Berlin on business.  It’s such and amazing & strange feeling to know that THEY know.

I’m happy the package even GOT there, really.  We sent it with DHL, and they have an (admittedly cool) online delivery tracking service.  However, it also tracks all the places they mistakenly ship your package before it gets to your destination.  Places they sent shirts to include:

  • Cologne
  • Brussels, Belgium
  • Berlin, of all places, heck my dad could’ve picked it up there!

You can see the tracking list here.

Anyway, I’m really very stoked that my family now knows there’s a baby on the way.  Granted, I’m also wierded out by no small degree.

Still Sharing the News…

Thursday, July 28th, 2005

We are preparing to share the news with the Nelsons – Oma and Opa plus all the aunties and uncles.  It is quite exciting to share this kind of news with the family – that a little one is on the way.  This will be the first grand child for the Nelson’s and first great grand child for the Berry side.

Had a great talk with my mom tonight – I feel like such an adult.  It’s amazing how your life can change so quickly with the news that you are going to be a parent in a matter of months.  Chris and I still look at each other in shock and are in denial.  Can this really be happening?  Is there a small life growing in me?  Well, based on the episodes of morning sickness and how tired I am – it’s pretty evident something is going on!

The miracle of life has taken root.  I’m still on medication to help the uterus thicken so it can continue to host the baby.  I’ll be on it for six more weeks.  It is concerning the thought that I could lose this little guy/girl – but 1 out of 6 of pregnancies end in miscarriage.  So, we appreciate everyone’s prayers and well wishes as we press on and plan on seeing this little bundle of joy in 7 months.
